I managed to get out to the coast on a great day of mixed weather I left the car at Bispham and took the tram to the north pier then after a coffee walked it down along these amazing sands. The day started well with those floaty white clouds and then gradually the clouds got thicker ending up as low mist. The site of the United Utilities water treatment ships etc looked reall turneresque

I spent an afternoon walking along the front at Lytham in very showery weather but managed to get two pochades started which I have now finished, even on a seemingly boring day the skies here are amazing in their movement as each weather sytsem changes...I thinks its the closenes of the two rivers The Wyre and the Ribble and the flat nature of the sands. Both works are sized 24x30cm iol on board

"Distant Fells" A painting of the Lancashire Coast

This commission is based upon anotheer outstanding Lancashire view over open moorland in Rossendale. Fascinating because of the changes this area has endured over the century gone and the new changes that are imminent. The completed work below is the view over the farmhouse towards a distant Pendle. The area suffered many years ago from the ravishes of coal mining. In fact a pit head was situated in front of the farm house and is in fact still there made safe by the coal board.
