ROB MILLER FINE ART

Rob Miller Paintings of the Lakeland Fells

It is a long walk from Brotheilkeld and the final climb is steep. I was happier when I settled down to paint at Foxes Tarn. Here the landscape is never still. A simple passage of light moving down valley became my initial focus. It captured a rocky ridge throwing great shadow shapes across the gullies.  With a strengthening wind this composition couldn't be trusted to last. To soon it changed from being a simple shapeshifter.  Now it's an alchemist turning base rock into a silvered mist.  I'm visually undecided on my focus.. Until the torn cry of a distant lamb and the lap of the tarn provides an settling emotional  key and a narratif forms in mind.

A kaleidoscope of creams and shattered greys cross the ridge

"I climbed the dark brow of the mighty Helvellyn,

Lakes and mountains beneath me gleamed misty and wide;

All was still, save by fits, when the eagle was yelling,

And starting around me the echoes replied."

Walter Scott
